I want to take a moment to share a story with you.
It’s a story about a woman, let’s call her Christine, who I worked with for a while.
I met Christine when we were looking for a copywriter for the German homepage of our website. After a while of writing for us, she grew to understand our work and one day she reached out and told me a little of her story.
Christine had been sick for over 30 years. She suffered from headaches, back pain, food intolerances, bladder issues which sometimes meant she needed the bathroom every 10 minutes, and fungus in her body and on her skin which caused her a lot of pain. She was also afraid of pretty much everything.
I was excited to work with her as I saw lots of ways we could help her to get the results she had been searching for. After hearing her story, I put together a treatment plan and talked with her about it the next time we met.
Her response?
I can’t do this. I can’t do that. I’ve already tried that.
Although she was asking for help to improve her health, her response was to reject every healing that could provide relief in her life. At this point my intuition was clearly telling me to step away.
Did I listen? No. I wanted so much to help her that I tried to work with her on a level that she might accept.
We started with some gentle psychology to open her mind to prepare for our work together and in the background, I worked with energy healing to support her. Slowly, we started to make progress.
Most people feel pain or fear more acutely during the evening or on the weekend and I was there to support her (as I am for all my patients) whenever she needed me. I spent countless hours talking with her, working on her at night, the weekend or over the holiday season.
Finally, the fungus levels that had caused massive problems and pain for so long, began to return to neutral. Yay!
She was so happy that she suggested doing a testimonial video for us to use on our website. We were thrilled! Her testimonial was wonderful and she gave a huge shout out about our work.
We continued to work together over a longer time using energy healing and energy psychology methods. In time she was even able to implement some of the food and supplement choices I had suggested.
Everything looked very promising but Christine was always a ‘one step forward, two steps back’ kind of person. She had periods of being well and full of energy interspersed with periods of ill health. The times of being well became longer but she always returned to her previous behaviours and illness. I can’t count the number of hours I spent explaining and demonstrating how her emotions were affecting her health.
And then one day after we had been working together for around 9 months, I received an email from her. She told me she had decided to stop working with us. She said she had been thinking about everything and to her mind she couldn’t see any real progress. She also suggested that we should stop claiming that our work was successful. She asked us to remove her testimonial video from our website as it didn’t feel right to her anymore.
To be honest, I was initially very confused. What did she mean when she said our work was not successful? The fungus no doctor had ever been able to control was back to a natural level, the intense headaches she had experienced twice a week had reduced to perhaps twice a month and as she was far less fearful, her business had grown from zero to a regular healthy income.
How is this not successful? Did we not do enough to help her?
In that moment, I realised I was doubting myself. I went back over the documentation of our time together and knew that we had done a great job. After all the effort we had put into helping her, there was nothing more we could have done. Christine was simply standing in her own way. She had told me her problems and we had worked with her to provide the healing she said she wanted. I had exhausted myself in my tireless efforts to help her understand how her mind was controlling her health.
But somewhere deep inside her, perhaps she needed to prove that she was a hopeless case. Maybe she needed to know she had tried everything and that nothing had worked. Even though her symptoms had improved, even though her business was flourishing, her unconscious mind was unable to accept that she could be well.
Her reaction goes to prove that what I teach about the power of the mind is true. Despite her desire to heal, her deeply held beliefs continued to return her life to its previous reality. She just couldn’t break free and experience the healing that could have been hers.
So we took down the testimonial video as she asked. And the amazing thing is, we don’t miss it. The energy that was attached to her testimonial is gone and everything feels much lighter and free.
I remember one of my teachers said, “Don’t get involved in the outcome. Imagine you’ve just completed a session and as your client leaves your home, their boss phones and blames them for something that’s gone wrong at work. In that moment, the client’s energy shifts and resets them to where they were before the session (or further back). The experience of being blamed, particularly if it what happened was not their fault, could trigger them to call you the next morning and complain that your session didn’t work. Or that they felt worse than before they saw you.”
Was it something we did? Or something we should have done? Or was it in fact, that something outside of themselves shifted their energy allowing old patterns and beliefs to be triggered all over again?
My time with Christine has allowed me to understand more clearly than ever before, the power of the unconscious mind to create our reality. I have learned to recognise when someone is simply not ready to work with me and to wish them well and send them on their way.
Because I am not the healer. I am simply the facilitator and the patient must be willing and open to the change that is required to heal. I cannot wave a magic wand and make everything better no matter how much I desire to see them well.
This is their journey and I will walk beside them only as long as they allow me to help.
Sometimes the need to be sick is more powerful than the desire to be well …
